Eastern White Pine

Reliance Timber’s Eastern White Pine wood grows in the mountains and foothills of western North Carolina. We dry most of our White Pine wood and turn it into beautiful specialty wood products such as: Tongue & Groove, Shiplap, Siding, Logs, and Post & Beam. White pine is white in color, and has knots every 2 to 3 feet.

Scientific Classification

Pinus Strobus

Characteristics

Pale in color, with a creamy white hue. Straight and even grain pattern. Generally knot free with an occasional small knot every 2-3 feet. Relatively stable with low shrinkage. Prized for its workability.

Interior Paneling, Doors, Architectural Details, Shelving, Cabinetry

Known for its wonderful smell, natural beauty, and decay-resistant properties, Cedar is a preferred choice for outdoor applications. Ranging from Cedar Shakes to Post & Beam, Cedar is an ideal choice for outdoor as well as indoor use. The color can range from pink to brown to white. The knots are random – there may be knots every 1 foot, or no knots at all.

Characteristics

Reliance Timber’s Douglas Fir grows primarily in Oregon and Washington. Fir can grow as large as 16 feet in diameter, and over 300 feet tall. We’re able to offer Free of Heart Center (FOHC), to greatly reduce splits and cracks (checks). It’s commonly used in applications where free-spanning structural integrity matters, such as: rafters or ridge beams. It varies from pink, white, and yellow in color, and has knots every 3 to 4 feet.

Characteristics

Can vary in color based on age and location of the actual tree but generally a light brown color. Turns, planes, and shapes well. Moderately durable in regards to decay. Known to be one of the strongest woods on earth. Good resistance to splitting. Often the standard against which all other framing species are compared
